New School Year Frequently Asked Questions
When is Kindergarten Open House?
You and your child can come in and meet the teacher during the Greenwood Open House on August 21st (6:00-6:45 students with last name A-M -- 7:00-7:45 students with last name N-Z). This Open House is for Kindergarten only.
When is Preschool Open House?
Preschool Open House is Tuesday, August 20th. AM Preschool students should attend from 6:00-6:45 pm. PM Preschool students should attend from 7:00-7:45 pm. When does kindergarten screening occur?
Your child will participate in screening before school starts this year. Classroom teachers will observe how your child interacts with the other students in their group, assist them in the administration of a screener that measures the 16 Skills for Kindergarten Success, and observe them in other academic activities.
What is Kindergarten Phase-In Week?
Kindergarten Phase-In occurs on August 22nd and 23rd. Kindergarten students do not attend school on August 21st. Your child will only attend one day this week. We feel that easing students into the start of Kindergarten allows them another opportunity to become comfortable with general school procedures. There will be approximately 10 students in each classroom on the Phase-In days under the supervision of their assigned classroom teacher. Each child will be assigned a Phase-In Date (Aug. 22 or 23) that parents will receive in the mail the week of August 11th.
This means that your Kindergarten student will attend school only one of first three days at the start of the school year. Kindergarten students will either attend August 22nd or 23rd. All Kindergarten students will begin attending school together on the 26th of August, and each day thereafter. Note: The phase-in process affects only Kindergarten students.
When will I know what class my child is going to be in?
Greenwood students will be assigned to a homeroom teacher in August. Our goal will be to have these assignments sent to parents by the week of August 11th. The classroom assignments for Kindergarten students will also be available on the Greenwood homepage the week of August 11th and you will be able to access your child’s classroom assignment by using the child’s student id number.
When will I find out about busing?
Bus information is scheduled to be available on our web-site at www.greenlocalschools.org sometime early in August. Because the main focus at the end of your child’s day is safety, we dismiss in an organized and systematic way. As a parent we need your help in the following manner: We strongly encourage that your child rides the bus. This will allow them to get used to the routine and reduce the amount of traffic at school. Should you decide to pick your child up from school, the teacher must receive a note from home upon the students arrival at school. As teachers do not always have an opportunity to check their voice mail, please do not leave a message on the teacher’s phone or with the secretary regarding transportation changes.
