New Student Lunch
Each year, approximately 50 new students enroll in Green Middle School over the summer months.  Early in September, the Guidance Office sponsors a New Student Lunch for all students new to Green.  The lunch provides an opportunity for new students to get acquainted with one another, have any questions answered, and be introduced to key staff members in the building including the principals, secretaries, custodians, cafeteria workers and health aides.  New students receive Green Bulldog t-shirts and are provided a pizza and cookie lunch to welcome them to our school.

CyberSafety Week
The state of Ohio has designated the second week in October as Ohio's Cyber Safety Week.  While the Internet is a great tool for doing research or staying in touch with friends, a lot of people get online with dangerous intentions.  We will recognize this week by daily reminders and facts on the morning announcements, communicating information to parents through our weekly e-mail newsletters, and having students sign cyber safety pledges in the classrooms.  For more information, please visit http://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/
Brief video clips are also shown to the students about the dangers of the internet.  Click on the links below to find the clips your students have seen:

Red Ribbon Week

October 27-30, 2014 is designated as Red Ribbon Week.  This national week originated in 1985 when Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena was kidnapped and murdered by Mexican drug traffickers.  Camarena was an 11-year veteran of the DEA assigned to Guadalajara, Mexico, where he was on the trail of the country's biggest marijuana and cocaine traffickers.  In 1985, he was extremely close to unlocking a multi-billion dollar pipeline.  His tragic death opened the eyes of many Americans to the dangers of drugs and the international scope of the drug trade.  Shortly after Kiki's death, Congressman Duncan Hunter and Kiki's high school friend, Henry Lozano, launched "Camerena Clubs" in Kiki's hometown of Calexico, California.  Hundreds of club members pledged to lead drug-free lives to honor the sacrifice made by Kiki Camarena.

Green Middle School students hear daily facts and statistics about drugs and alcohol on the morning announcements.  GMS staff proudly wears Drug Free ribbons all week and the student council representatives wear Dog Tags with a drug free message and are encouraged to promote the benefits of a drug free lifestyle to their peers.

Girls Lunch Chats

Girls are invited once/week to spend their lunch and activity period with the counselors for a Girls Lunch Chat.  This takes place every Tuesday for 7th graders and every Thursday for 8th graders.  This program is focused on improving self-esteem and body image, healthy friendships, conflict resolution and internet safety.  Any student is welcome at any time to join the group.  The group is located in Room 104, the art classroom.  It is our goal to address issues important to middle school girls.
