The following are the courses offered at GHS. 
 
 

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS       1 credit            Grades 9-12                Period Class

Prerequisite: None

 

Topics in this class are file management, word processing, spreadsheets, Power Point presentations, and databases.  We will use Microsoft Office and OpenOffice software.  This class will serve as an introduction to other computer courses offered.

 

 

MULTIMEDIA         1 credit            Grades 9-12                Period Class

Prerequisite: None

 

The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to learn, make decisions about, and use interactive multimedia software. The focus of the course will be the use of computers to present text, graphics, video, animation and sound in an integrated way. Software that will be used includes Microsoft Power Point, Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, and Audacity.

 

 

COMPUTER SCIENCE 1 WITH VISUAL BASIC            1 credit            Grades 9-12                Block Class

Prerequisite: Grade of B or higher in Algebra

 

Students will develop problem-solving skills as they create algorithms and design problems in a Visual Basic environment. This course will be good for any student wanting to become an engineer, accountant, mathematician, or enter a technology field. Students will create games by implementing basic programming concepts like variable declarations, arrays, loops, conditional statements and more.

 

 

COMPUTER SCIENCE 2 with JAVA         1 credit            Grades 10-12              Block Class

Prerequisite: Grade of C or higher in Computer Science 1 With Visual Basics

 

This course will use the object-based language JAVA. The students will increase their problem solving skills by creating appropriate algorithms for real life problems. Students will learn to develop programs with good structure and design.  

 

 

WEB PROGRAMMING      1 credit            Grades 9-12                Block Class

Prerequisite: Grade of C or higher in Computer Science 1 With Visual Basics

 

Students in this class will be introduced to all phases of designing a web site. Topics will include creation of safe web graphics, optimizing graphics, planning a web site from start to finish, file management, FTP, HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Javascript, VBscript and ASP.
